The first step is to choose the scenery data that is relevant for you. Scenery data is built from map data showing the current area and can include a height model, aerial photo and 3D building models. Within CityPlanner you can choose ready-to-go Scenery data from various map data suppliers. You can also upload your own data. We recommend you to upload data for a whole city or a larger area while you are at it. Your organisation can easily reuse the same scenery data in several projects and get a better view of how the project affects the area.

In CityPlanner, you can upload 3D-models and vector graphics to a project to visualize for instance development plans, ideas from architects and real estate developers or sketches for projects that are in an early stage.

Create 3D-models in your favourite 3D-modelling tool. A model can include new buildings, vegetation, roads, signs, cars and more. You can even make a new height model for the project area in order to visualise how the terrain will change. Upload your model, which you have saved in COLLADA or KMZ format, to CityPlanner. Using CityPlanner you can easily position your model where you want it, or use the coordinates that come exported from your 3D-modelling tool. Create as many models and versions that you need for your project. A few example 3D-tools that you can use to create models for CityPlanner are Google SketchUp, Autodesk 3DStudio Max, Bentley Microstation and more.

It’s easy to add information, such as texts, links to documents and other web pages to your project in CityPlanner. You can define and visualize project phases that are relevant for your project and highlight at what phase your project is at the time.

CityPlanner lets you choose how and where to present your project. You can remove current buildings and replace with a new model. You can even replace the height model in chosen areas project to change the landscape. Work with as many versions and illustrations that you need. Compare the various alternatives. Add viewpoints to make it easier to highlight important aspects when presenting your projects.

Invite your team, stake holders, consultants and politicians to collaborate around the project. You could let architects create several versions of an idea and upload to CityPlanner on top of the scenery data, allowing the whole team to evaluate the ideas based on the current city model in combination with existing height model and buildings. Your team can compare the various versions in 3D. The models are placed on the current map data making sightline studies really intuitive. Comments can be added directly within the 3D environment, giving each comment a geo reference. Modifications and new versions can easily be done. The power of real time 3D eliminates the need to recreate a movie or making a new physical model from scratch, all changes are done instantly.
